Hi, my name is Mareen. I’m a multidisciplinary designer working at the intersection of ecology, craft and technology. My practice is driven by researching materials and their manufacturing processes. I investigate the ecological, social and political forces embedded in materials, and use design as a tool for regeneration – of processes, landscapes and cultural knowledge. I develop not only materials, but also new ways of making for (overlooked) resources. Often, I turn to traditional craft techniques, translating them into new methods to unlock overlooked potentials. In this interplay of hand and tool, material histories become futures. 

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture from the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Detmold and a master’s degree in Product Design from Weißensee Academy of Art and Design Berlin. My work has received international awards and been exhibited widely. In addition to working on my own projects, I am currently working at Matters of Activity – Research Cluster of Excellence at Humboldt University in Berlin.
